Location: SwazilandThe Ezulwini Valley lies just 15 km from Mbabane in Swazilan The Ezulwini Valley, where monuments, museums, culture and crafts are to be found, lies just 15 km from Mbabane in Swaziland. King Mswati III lives in a grand residence in this valley and rules the Kingdom with his Queen Mother or Ndlovukazi/She-Elephant. Every August the King gets a chance to add to his ever-growing number of wives at the traditional Umhlanga (Reed) Dance. All the young virgins perform in front of the She-Elephant and from amongst them the King chooses his next wife - an honour she cannot refuse. The previous King, the much loved Sobhuza II, was the world’s longest reigning Monarch and is said to have fathered more than 500 children during his 65 year reign. The Ezulwini Valley is where you will find most of the top hotels and plenty of things to do. Chose from an 18 hole championship golf course, horse riding and hiking or the night life of a sophisticated casino, or some neon and nakedness at the Why Not Disco. In complete contrast you can get into the real spirit of Swaziland and bow low to a ruling Chief, during a cultural visit to a traditional beehive hut village. The exquisite Swazi crafts will undoubtedly find their way into your suitcase and street stalls are crammed with tall giraffes and other wooden sculptures. Most eye catching are the bright hand woven baskets in zig-zag designs of greens, purples, yellows and reds.
